Halloween Fun

Thanks to everyone's contributions we had a wonderful day.  I dressed it up with a witches brew.  I agreed to share the recipe and sent a copy home.  A few parents helped with carving out pumpkins, then we counted the seeds.  Finally, we shared our treats and watched a Magic School Bus Video.  I hope the Halloween evening was just as much fun!

Peak Into Last Week ~ October 22nd

Enjoy a small peak into last week.  We enjoyed our Junior Achievement session this week making donuts.  Then Mr. Schreiber gave us all real donuts.

First Days of School!

Enjoy the photos of our first few days of school.  It was a time of learning routines, getting to know each other and becoming comfortable with second grade!  I am very much looking forward to a wonderful year with my new class!

Visit Your Classroom!

Just reminding everyone that you are welcome to visit your Second Grade classroom tomorrow (Thursday) between 12pm and 1pm.  You can come drop off supplies, meet new friends and say hello to old friends.  The classroom is almost ready!

Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome to all my new friends who will be in Mrs. Wiggs' Second Grade this year.  I am very excited to meet all my new friends in a few weeks.  Let me tell you a little about myself.  I was very busy this summer watching my two daughters play soccer.  They both play for Spencerport High School.  You will hear a lot of stories about Autumn and Harley.

I climbed some very high mountains this summer with my Dad and Harley.  You will meet my Dad because he comes into the classroom to help out with different activities.  His name is Mr. Maginn.

I also ran a race with my Dad.  When we write in class together, I write about what I do.  Many of my stories are about jogging, my family or walking my dog Stella.

I also like to be at my cottage.  Mrs. Marsh rented a cottage and I got to use her sailboat.  If you don't know Mrs. Marsh, she is another Second Grade teacher.  We do a lot of learning and fun events together in school.

I am excited to meet you and listen to your summer stories.  Leave a comment on this blog and tell me about yourself.

Final Days Count Down!

We continue to count down each day towards summer vacation!

We also had "inside out" day, no homework day, sit in a different seat day, movie day, and who knows what will be next!

The Final Countdown!

To add excitement to our final days at school, we began counting down the last 20 days.  Each day  a balloon is popped and a surprise for the next day is announced.  

 On day 20 we made crowns that said:

TWENTY MORE DAYS OF SCHOOL!

 Day 19 we used markers to write with all day.

 

Day 18 we made paper airplanes and threw them all around.

Day 17 we sat in a different seat.  

Day 16 we had an extra recess.

Letters from Florida!

As many of you know I have several volunteers that support our classroom.  My father spent a lot of time working with us before he went south for the winter.  Since he left, many of us have been writing back and forth.  It is fun to learn about his adventures in Florida.


A few weeks ago we all got a personalized letter!  Inside each letter were 4 puzzle pieces.  It took us a few minutes to figure out that we all had to work together to put the puzzle together.  Everyone had fun putting the puzzle together and sharing their letters.  Thanks Dad (Mr. Maginn), for sending us some fun.

This week we had an exciting time studying penguins.  In addition, we had a fun time with Junior Achievement!

We "Doctored" up our Contractions!

The past two weeks we have been working on contractions.  To help us better understand that contractions are taking some letters out and inserting an apostrophe we stepped into the operating room.  Everyone was given a set of words, an operating mask, scissors and of course a band-aid.  First we surgically removed the unnecessary letters and then patched things up with a band-aid!
