Who Will We Visit Next?

The anticipation builds as I bring the old suitcase to the carpet. Revealed inside is an author we will get to know. This month it is Kevin Henkes! Several books he has written are packed in the suitcase, waiting for us to read.

Does the shoe fit?

Selecting a book that is "just right" for young readers is not easy.  Using shoes gave us the perfect connection.  This week we used shoes to show how one book does not fit everyone.  In addition, your interests reflect the type of shoes you have in your closet.  When we choose a book there is so much to think about first!

Our Class Promise

The first few weeks are so much about creating a learning community.  We spent several days working on our class promise.  After reading several books, we identified rules we would like for our classroom.  Each student then picked one rule that they wanted to work extra hard on this year.  The results were wonderful!

Weekly Newsletter

I am happy to present our first newsletter of the year. Each week a newsletter will be published on my blog. It is intended to provide more information on what we are learning in school. In addition, look for important parent information to help connect you with your child's education.

First Week Of Second Grade

We had a great time meeting new friends! To help easy our nerves we read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg and then enjoyed some "Jitter Juice" to chase away the butterflies. We also shared our favorite book with a buddy. Preview the slide show for close up moments.

Stop In & Drop Off

Friends and Families are welcome to join us for Canal View's first annual Stop In & Drop Off session.  Drop off school supplies, visit with old friends and meet new ones.  We have letters offering advice from last year's second graders too.  If you can't visit, here are some pictures of what you will see.
