Does the Shoe Fit?

Selecting a book that is "just right" for young readers is not easy.  Using shoes gave us the perfect connection.  This week we used shoes to show how one book does not fit everyone.  In addition, your interests reflect the type of shoes you have in your closet.  When we choose a book there is so much to think about first!

Fall is in the Air!

This week we read a Biography about Johnny Appleseed and a Non-fiction book about apples.  We finished the week by making applesauce in the classroom!  In addition, we selected one writing piece that we wanted to fix up and publish.  All week we worked on adding more details and checking over our piece.  On Friday we had an Authors Party.  We celebrated our writing by sharing our stories with a partner and eating applesauce.  Enjoy your peek into 2nd Grade!

It's the small moments that make it special!

It is very common for a student to pop out of their seat and shout "I lost a tooth!"  It is always a special moment to share in this milestone.  Yesterday we had a friend who twisted, pulled and twisted again and again.  The whole class watched in anticipation to see if it would come out.  When it did we all cheered and clapped.  Just another wonderful day in second grade!

First Day of School!

We had a wonderful day getting to know each other on the first day!  Some of us were nervous, but after drinking a little "Jitter Juice"  all was relaxed and fun.  Enjoy the photos I was able to shoot.

Please read the homework assignment sheet that was sent home today and return it tomorrow.

Thank you!
Mrs. Wiggs

Feelings about starting second grade tomorrow...

Thank you to all the parents who stopped in to help get thier child settled.  It was wonderful meeting everyone!  I am excited for tomorrow!  Remember to bring a snack, sneakers and a smile!

Here are some feelings and thoughts that were left on our smartboard.  A younger brother may have erased a few thoughts from early in the evening.
